CECILIA SJOHOLM Room portrait II
Numer02 gallery is pleased to announce ” VoID” a solo exhibition by the London based artist CECILIA SJOHOLM.
With an educational background in fine art, interior and architecture, the artist investigates new forms, allowing her practice to focus around the concepts of structure, scale and spatiality. Void has been chosen as a title for the exhibition, in order to maintain an ongoing dialogue between creation and inspiration. The artist has been selected for her constant inteminable exploration into the notion of perception, and its transformation, becoming volume translated into flatness hence void. The search is for multiple interpretations of abstract form. How the content negotiates the borders of a paper or the physical dimension of a wall, of a room or a space, is sapiently placed into consideration. It is this continuous dialogue to impress the viewer, we see here between the void theorised, a concept explored in the title of one of her work. Space, signs and voids are traced inconvertibly and conceptualised through the sublime dimension of the “framed”.
Our gallery space reconfiguration respond to a site specific commission, where the unseen that define a place has been reconfigured and subverted. To better encouraging attention on this, the artist has been invited to measuring the space on abstract level and to place in it a selection of her works on pencil and beeswax.
Recent / ongoing work includes site-specific art pieces in Gothenburg, Sweden (Trapphus and Threshold, as SjoholmPhillips). Group exhibitions including Bainbridge Open at ASC Gallery (2018), Components selected by Artnumber23 (2018), Creekside Open 2017 selected by Alison Wilding at APT galley (2017), monoChroma at the Crypt Gallery (2016) and What is the Point? at Mall Galleries (2015) and a recent participantion in the London Creative Network artist development programme, run by SPACE.
